Saturday, July 20.
Woke up this morning, there was something on my mind. Yay, it’s Su’s birthday.🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂💤💤💤💤💤💤😎😎😎😎😎😎.
Su’s choice today.
Firststop, The Atomium, the symbol for Brussels for the 1958 World Expo.
What a magnificent piece of engineering. It is based on an iron atom.
Obviously they knew we were coming.
So did this guy, Spirou.
Spirou is Brussels character for the charter/bill of human rights. For those who do not know what the 30 human rights are. Here is a refresher. Read on.
Ok, so know we have all read them, perhaps we can put all our bigotry and biases to one side and work together for everyone, not just ourselves.
Great views from inside the balls.
The original design sketches for the Structure.
Some things which could be purchased when the structure was completed.
View from bottom ball looking up.
Installation under the structure with a couple of strange reflections.
This gives an idea of the structures size.
Back on the you path again, passing the catholic cathedral.
Another of their many sculptures around the city.
When they bring these out, they mean business. Preparing for the national holiday parade tomorrow.
At the other end of the spectrum, we have this little food van.
A typical suburban street scene.
No special reason, just liked its symmetry.
Seen lots of old, here’s some really modern stuff. No glass tax involved here.
Oops, the Brussels version of the Arc de Triumphe. Although wider in is two metres shorter.
Back to the modern stuff.
The yellow arch is made completely of bicycles, for when the Tour de France passed through here.
Military band practising for the holiday parade.
A quick stop at Notre Dame cathedral, yes every city over here has one.
There is a great deal of building being undertaken in Brussels. This is another example.
Late in the day, time for the girl to choose where to dine. Great choice. Meal and refreshments were excellent. What a great way to finish off a special day.
Passed by this unusual building on the way back to the bus stop. Three very weary travellers today, just looked at the app on the phones. All over 15,000 steps today.
You had a great day for your birthday, Su! 15000 steps … how far is that?
You lot are taking us back to our Trafalgar Tour of 1979, but you are getting a bigger, better tour! XXOO
