BUDAPEST

Saturday, August 1.

Finish and photos to follow

Woke up this morning in sunny Budapest. Breakfast and walked to bus stop. On the hop on/hop off bus to see what is on offer. €20 gets you on two different routes, trip on the Danube, which by the is its narrowest here, 285 metres, night bus ride up to the highest point, plus lots of freebees at restaurants, for two days. Unbelievable. Dinner at the restaurant last night including drinks was €20 in total for both of us. We heard it was cheap in Hungary.

Spent the day on both bus routes, 2.5 hours on each and there is lots to see. Around 2,000,000 people live in Budapest, is a combination of two towns, Buda on one side of the Danube, Pest on the other. The river flows the centre and is full of those scenic river cruisers, which ply their ways round Europe’s waterways.

There are seven bridges crossing the Danube as it wends it’s way through Budapest. The Margeret, the Chain, the Freedom are but three. All bridges were bombed during the war and had to be rebuilt, as was 80% of city.

Jumped off the bus and headed into the mall area to look for a restaurant for dinner. Following a beautiful meal we walked the 4 kms back to Myrtle.
